How can I prevent the band on towels to shrink or "pucker" in the dryer?

I have had towels in the past have the band (I think this is what it's called) shrink. It makes the towel smaller in a way since the band was keeping the rectangular shape. I think this is happening in the dryer. What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
